The 2013 Zambia Annual Reformed Conference.

Theme: "The Christian Life: Finding Assuarance & Fighting Temptation"

The Zambia Annual Reformed Conference 2013 will be held from August 26 to 30, 2013 at Lusaka Baptist Church, Lubu Road, Lusaka. Register online here.

Don Carson and Thabiti Anyabwile will be the main preachers to guide us through the conference, from Monday to Friday; they will also take up teachings in a series of seminars on the biblical life.

Don Carson is research professor of New Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. Carson came to Trinity from the faculty of Northwest Baptist Theological Seminary in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he also served for two years as academic dean.

Carson is a respected exegete and has written or edited more than forty-five books, including commentaries on books of the Bible, the Sermon on the Mount, the Gospel of John, and books on prayer and suffering. His book, The Gagging of God: Christianity Confronts Pluralism (1996), won the 1997 Evangelical Christian Publishers Association Gold Medallion Book Award in the category of "theology and doctrine." (theopedia.com).

Thabiti Anyabwile is married to Kristie, with whom he has three children: Afiya, Eden, and Titus. He is senior pastor at First Baptist Church in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands.

Thabiti is a former Muslim. His book (The Gospel for Muslims: An Encouragement to Share Christ with Confidence [Moody, 2010] ) is a terrific reminder that the gospel is the power of God unto salvation, Muslims included. In his own words: "My wife and I lost our first child at about three months into the pregnancy. The Lord humbled us and softened us. During that period of mourning... we began to hear the gospel preached [on] a pastor's weekly television program. We attended his church one Sunday and he preached what is still one of the best expositions I'd ever heard on Exodus 32. It was Law and Gospel. And in God's richest kindness, He saved my wife and I through the preaching of the gospel on that day." (christianity.com).

We expect our Lord God to use these men in a mighty way to draw many souls to himself, and to further inform and strengthen the faith of his saints over the period of the conference.

Online registration is now open.

New Work in Kapiri Mposhi

I visited Manasseh Kaonga, the man we are considering for missions work in Kapiri Mposhi, on Thursday, May 5, 2011, and spent the whole morning driving around the town to see its layout and the challenges for church planting. I also handed over a bicycle from KBC for his use as he travels around the area. I came away convinced of the need for a Reformed Baptist church in that town. It is a strategic junction town, which is evidently growing.

First Anniversay Conference at SOS
Latest

When the Lord opened the doors of outreach for Kabwata Baptist Church at SOS Children Village in Lusaka on 26th December 2009, little did we know what the Lord had in store for us! The work has been growing steadily over the last one year. On averages, 90 children attend Sunday school and church service at the Village every Sunday. In December 2010, 26 of the teenagers from the Village attended the Annual Youth Camp hosted by Kabwata Baptist Church in Lusaka. When they went back to the Village, SOS management requested for their own conference to be held at the premises. That news was very exciting. The Elders gave a go ahead and a “First Anniversary Conference” took place on 5th and 6th February 2011.

The conference theme was “Flee the Evil Desires of Youth” (2 Timothy 2:22). About 90 youths attended the Conference. Pastor Saidi Chishimba from Faith Baptist Church in Kitwe preached three sermons on the first day of the conference and one sermon during the Sunday Worship Service. In the first sermon, he laid the foundation on what desire is and what it means to flee the evil desires of youth. In the second one, he considered the life of Joseph (Genesis...) as he dealt with fleeing sexual desires that has ruined many lives of young people. He emphasised that sexual desire ordinarily is stronger in young people than in the elderly. The main thrust of his message was, ‘how can I do such a thing and sin against my God?’ In the third sermon, he dealt with peer pressure, another challenge that gives birth to evil desires in young people which has also ruined the lives of youths in the pretext of pleasing their friends. He illustrated the argument to remain holy and different from the rest by emulating Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego (Daniel), who despite very serious peer pressure, remained faithful to God. The last sermon delivered on Sunday was on the practical ways to avoid falling prey to evil desires. He beautifully exposed Psalm 1 emphasizing the need for every young person to treasure God’s Word and hide it in his heart. He further warned that bad company is disastrous and should be avoided. He said the knowledge of God’s Word and its application saves many from ruin. He challenged non-Christians to turn away from sin by repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. The Christian was encouraged to pray for grace to overcome these evil desires. He reminded the participants that desires whether good or evil will always be there. It was a glorious conference and we pray for fruit that will last through conversions. Brethren pray for this work at SOS Children Village!

Finally on behalf of the organisers of the conference we express our gratitude to the Church and the brethren that gave financial, transport and spiritual support and all those that took time to come and help in one way or the other during the conference. May God richly bless you!
