Dear partners, we are back “on air” after a long time of absence! It allowed us some soul searching, reorganization and adjustment. Our efforts have been concentrated in reaching out to patients for the past one year. We’ve come back feeling overwhelmed not only with the illnesses but the sheer need of the Gospel! Thankfully, this has been compensated by receptiveness to the Gospel and some fruit of our labours. We have known a few “mercy drops” as evidence of the Lord’s promise to save, even in answer to prayer. |

Finally we had our first outreach to street children on 8th May, just to observe and see what surrounds them. It was as exciting an experience as it was a saddening and humbling one for most of us to see and hear what those boys and girls go through on a daily basis. |

HIV/AIDS prevalence in Zambia is 14.3% among adults. This translates to one million people living with HIV. Of the 330,000 in need of antiretroviral treatment, only 46% were receiving it at the end of 2007. Treatment access is much lower among children. HIV in Zambia is mainly transmitted through unprotected sex. The epidemic is fuelled by multiple concurrent partnerships and transactional, commercial and sex. Hope Ministry visited Chisomo Drop-In Center located in Barclay/Makeni’s Lusaka area on 16 May 2009, taking not only the Gospel but a bit of material support to more than 20 boys and girls present at the time. |

Hope Ministry held a one day basic counseling workshop on Monday 25 May 2009 from 09.00hours to 12.00 hours. The aim of the workshop was to equip the Hope Ministry members with the basic skills on how to counsel people that are in distress or are afflicted. The facilitators of the workshop were from Action Zambia a Christian organisation that helps to equip church workers with various skills. |

1.0 INTRODUCTION This report highlights one of the major thrust of Hope for the Afflicted Ministry. The problem of orphans and vulnerable and street children may not be an issues or subject of concern for some people in Zambia, and yet its overall effects cannot be hidden or ignored. Therefore, providing care and support to the OVCs had to continue for those children we support and to reach out to others who need spiritual and material support. |
